Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Junior developer role (possibly Midlevel developer for the right candidate)
Work will be (primarily) based on maintenance and continued development of Gooroo's primary revenue generating product, an online invoice system aimed specifically at SMEs. You need to work on our existing codebase resolving issues as they are logged from testing or user comments. In addition will be expected to develop enhancements together with design and implementation of new functionality as requested by the business. An ability to hit the ground running and quickly adapt to working on an existing codebase is a definite advantage.
Gooroo's product is developed around the symfony framework (and demonstrable experience of this would be a definite advantage), but a strong grounding in Object Orientated PHP 5 development and an understanding of MVC and tiered web application development, for the right candidate, will be sufficient. You may consider it essential that you will need experience of some LAMP technologies, primarily PHP and MySQL. Whilst your skills with Linux and Apache will also find a good home here, you should not consider this role to have a heavy focus on these areas.
The successful candidate will have considerable autonomy on this project, and as such the role would be better suited to a well-rounded candidate who is also comfortable with front-end technologies, such CSS and Javascript (experience the jQuery library would be very advantageous). You will not be expected to work in complete isolation, adequate time will be given for handover between the current principal developer (who is remaining with the company, but crossing over to a new project).
It needs to be understood that this role, at least at the inception, is being offered as a Junior role (although we may extend the remit for the right midlevel developer). The are avenues for advancement open to the right candidate, it is also a good opportunity to gain valuable business experience for a someone who is in the early stages of their career.
We welcome applications from all individuals, but (on this occasion) will not be discussing the role with employment agencies.
Candidates must be based in Leeds, UK. This is a full-time permanent role
