Description
Experience Level: Expert
General information for the business: We sell DVDs online, see below for more details
Kind of development: New program from scratch
Description of every module: Amazon API
eBay API
Magento API (with possible migration to Shopify in the coming months)
CUPS
SQL DB
Rimage Web Services API
Network share scanner
Error logging and email notifications
Description of requirements/functionality: To give you some background; we are a DVD on demand or "Burn to order" company, meaning we have rights from various networks around the world such as Discovery Channel and History Channel to burn their products (typically back-catalogue programmes that would otherwise be unavailable to consumers). This means we hold very little stock as each product is manufactured as it's ordered.
Currently, we have a piece of software that is a fairly simple and elegant solution to automate the manufacturing process. It makes API calls to the various channels we sell across, downloads the orders and then matches those orders to the corresponding products on our network share using a SQL database. Then it issues commands to printers (CUPS) and a cluster of DVD burning towers (Rimage Web Services API). The software sits on an old Apple xServe and is programmed in xCode. The hardware is end-of-life and so we need to migrate to a more modern platform.
Initially, it would be a case of building an application that replicates the functionality we have now but on a more modern and currently supported platform (I have the source-code of our current application). Once the groundwork has been laid, there will be scope for more work later as we add new features that will help the business going forward.
I would please ask that only UK developers apply, as we would like you to come to our office in Warwickshire to meet our team and discuss the project further.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Many thanks,
Sam
