My company lays victorian mosaic tiles. I want a utility that will allow me to 'drag and drop' template 'tiles' into a grid, in order to create a 'field' pattern. The same must apply for a border. Utility needs to prompt for a grouting gap: 0.5mm, 1mm or 2mm.
Desired outcome is to 'fit' this field pattern (with the required number of repeats) plus the border onto a path size. This might be allowed for manually by dragging lines (like margin lines on a Word document) over a repeated pattern if easier than calculating 'best fit'. There is usually some margin to allow a good fit of tiles to path or vice versa. Good information on sizing is critical.
Utility needs to return overall dimensions, a 'picking list' of the required tiles and a laying diagram. Each tile shape would need to have a buy and sell price attached, meaning the tile database could produce picking lists, cost sheet, invoices and stock lists. Note: tiles sizes are available as standard CAD items if required.
Some patterns are simple( e.g. a simple chequerboard with 75mm square tiles) but others are more complex with different size squares, triangles and border rectangles. Details of the individual tiles, the field patterns and the borders can be found here: http://oldeenglishtiles.co.uk
The utility required is already used by a competitor of mine here: www.londonmosaic.com. They have very good software which does all this. I essentially want this copied, or bettered, for my own use.
Initially for private use, this may be scaled for commercial/retail application later. All intellectual property rights are to remain with me. Work is fee based only.
