Description
Experience Level: Expert
We are a small UK engineering company based in East Midlands working on a project to put an industrial product ( to which it has full rights to work upon ) back into production. The product comprises about 3 printed circuit boards which use Microchip PIC devices. The original code for the PICs exists.
We are reviewing the design of the product. For application reasons the hardware design will remain almost without change. The PIC devices we will change to currently available chips.
The Job posted is an initial study to review the exisiting PIC hardware and code for one of the three boards : [1] get an understanding of the hardware design around the exisiting PIC devices ( i.e. the circuit connections to the PIC's pins ) [2] review the exsiting PIC code and its commentary [3] suggest up-to-date PIC devices to which we can migrate the exisiting code.
We are looking for a Freelance engineer with electronics knowledge and PIC programming experience to work with us for a short period to complete this study ( points [1] to [3] ) so that we can take the next steps to put the product back into production.
Our estimate is that about 8 -10 hours would be a reasonable time to reach a sufficient understanding of the exisiting circuit and the code. For this investigative study we are looking for an offer for 15 hours of work from a software engineer who is good on working at a detailed level, confident in PIC programming, and can make practical suggestions.
Primarily (although other options will be considered) we are looking for an engineer in the UK so that we may travel to hand over drawings and give an introduction of about 2 hours to this task.
The output result should be a short report with recommendations about steps needed to update the PIC hardware and improve (if necessary) the structure of the PIC code. Languages of communication for this work English and/or Russian.
