Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
General information for the business: matlab
Kind of development: New program from scratch
Description of requirements/functionality: Background and Requirements
FastConnect is a wireless service provider. They have hired your group as design and development consultant to help on a new project with. The company is experiencing a rapid growth in their data service. To cope with the demand, they want design a new scheduler for their service which is fair. You need to think of accommodating various traffic type, for example, voice, video streaming etc.
1.There is no fixed definition of proportional fairness. Do a literature survey and discuss few variants of proportionally fair scheduling technique. Critically analyse their expected performance/characteristics. Will the performance of the fairness scheme vary with varying traffic type? Choose one of them for your design and justify the choice.
2. Implement the scheduler (preferably in Matlab) for a single cell wireless network. You should assume fixed power for the transmitter. Make a choice for number of users and randomly allocate them in the cell [again you need to justify the choices]. Your scheduler should be able to handle no more than 75% user in each scheduling time. The rate achieved in each scheduled slot depends on the received SNR. The SNR will help you to select appropriate modulation and coding scheme [Note: You do not need to implement modulation and coding scheme. Use Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) mapping to estimate bit rate. You are allowed to choose any available standard (such as LTE ) for Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC) scheme with appropriate references].
3. You should test the designed scheduler for fixed and varied traffic types and then critically evaluate the performance. Is there any impact of the traffic type on the performance of the scheduler?
4 . The performance of the scheduler also depends on the number of previous slots (also known as window length) you consider while selecting the users to be scheduled for next time slots. You should critically analyse the performance of your designed system with regard to window length. Your discussion should include the advantages and disadvantages of using short/long window length
OS requirements: Windows
Extra notes: Background and Requirements
