We have an application, which you can use and test at
It is PHP, MySQL, AJAX,JavaScript, Apache on Linux.
The source code is at

* Note: this task is not for our in house app, but our custom Second Life Viewer, a C++ software client. Also available through our source code link.

We currently make an effort to have weekly meetings in the Second Life metaverse, and as such have to deal with the rather cumbersome and slow viewers available. We want to look into creating a fast, flexible client that improve the machinists SL experience and consider options related to how we work. Mostly. :)

I'd like the option to turn off receiving and sending chat messages in the viewer, and a choice to lock such selections with a password.

Specific work:

1. Add a tab called 'Parental Controls' to the preferences.
2. On this tab, have a checkbox called 'Disable Chat'. Defaults off. If selected, chat can neither be received or sent. Make sure you disable display for both console and bubble chat.
3. If chat is disabled, hide the chat entry control.
4. On the preferences tab, display a lock/unlock symbol (like on MacOSX). When clicked, allow parent to enter a password which locks changes to this tab.
5. If password is forgotten, assume that deinstalling/reinstalling the viewer will clear the setting. Upgrading the viewer to another version should NOT clear the setting.
