Facebook app - simple "shop front" link-out app (i.e. from facebook to external e-commerce site).
Features like app: http://www.shoptab.net/pricing-and-features-details.php
Key points:
- app links back to main website for completion of purchase
- allows for scheduled csv upload into facebook with limited product data fields (about 6 to 8)
- processes / optimizes images for display in facebook page
- no shop cart, customer db, or payment gateway in facebook, just products info & links out to main website.
- must be "purchasable app" on facebook with subscription options anticipated
- must take advantage of facebook like / share features for product sharing
Possible differences needed:-
- product categories preferably to be multi-level based on category path
Note 1: We welcome intial bids for app features listed via link above; if price becomes an issue we may reduce feature list to core features and ask for re-bids.
Skills needed:
- facebook apps (preferably with previous portfolio)
- fbml / php / mysql / or other chosen DB
- able to advise on best service architecture
- know how to integrate scheduled uploads into app from a csv file
- design layout skills
- clear communication skills
- willingness to advise where coder knows best!
Note 2: clear advice needs to be given regarding:
- best database type & structure for future scalability & server load
- best image processing method (on server OR 3rd party service like amazon S2?)
Bidders should have:
- previous facebook app experience
- a good feedback history
- realistic pricing
Note: Winning bidder must agree no copyright is infinged in the production of the app & that work is original & owned by buyer once purchased.
......................Additional information...............
A bit more about Note 2 above:- "best image image processing method" question.
The csv file data input (to the app) will contain a product image URL that points to the large product image that is held on the clients original ecommerce website server.
These images will need optimizing for the facebook app. use.
We think there a several possibilites for dealing with these product images:-
1. copy the images into the facebook app database...but this will probably make databases too big and slow!
2. Try to load the images onto one of our servers somehow - if so... we would need to know a method of doing this.
3. Process the images by a 3rd party service like amazon s2 and call them up from their server instead as it may give good performance
4. Leave the images on the clients ecommerce server and just call them from this original server...this is cheap but is this wise?
So, the question we are asking is
- what is the best way to get product images into the app, so that:-
1. servers will run smoothly.
2. so that it does not cost too much
Hope this makes the question clearer. Thanks.
