Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
General information for the business: Needs an HTML developer with a good understanding of using the manifest property operating in Chrome.
Kind of development: Customization of existing program
Description of requirements/functionality:
We wish to create a demo example of an HTML application that can be run online or offline using Chrome as the browser. The initial phase is to:
1 Create an instance of http://html5demos.com/offlineapp that will run on line as at present on your own laptop.
2 Get this working on your own laptop so you are familiar with the concept.
3 Please add a command button labelled ‘Off-line’. When pressed, it sets the application to run in off-line mode and changes the button label to ‘On line’. When the button is pressed again, it switches the mode to on-line and changes the label on the button back to ‘off line’.
4 Add a further command button, “Show manifest” that displays the manifest on the console
5 A simple explanation of the manifest and enabling on-line applications to run off-line is given at: http://www.w3schools.com/html/html5_app_cache.asp. Further guidance on switching between online and offline is given here: http://www.htmlgoodies.com/html5/other/build-an-offline-html5-web-application.html#fbid=EezEelgP0sr However, searching on Google gives several references.
6 When you have completed the job, send me the HTML for testing. I will install in on a third party server and advise you accordingly.
This is relatively straight forward for a competent HTML developer with a good understanding of using the manifest property operating in Chrome. In our bid, please indicate your experience in this field. The job should be completed within a week or so of commissioning.
Specific technologies required: Chrome, HTML competence
OS requirements: Windows
