When sharing my website content to facebook nine times out of ten I'm getting no image appearing. and when I enter the url into the sharing debugger it returns "URL returned a bad HTTP response code. 429" Occasionally it says everything is fine but if I scrape it again it says it's bad again. Sometimes it shares the url successfully on facebook but this happens very rarely. I have been sharing my website content to facebook without issue for over twelve years until this issue started a week ago.

Is this just a facebook glitch and should I just wait it out until they fix it or is there an issue with my site ?

Can anyone assist ?

*Running WordPress on shared hosting i.e. you won't be able to adjust server rate limits.
*I don't use a social media share plugin
* Meta for Developers - Application Rate Limit 0% of Limit Used. Users Throttled 0

    Hey Ryan, have you tried to debug a different site on the same hosting?
    For instance
    https://www.stockbridgeedinburgh.com/bells-diner/
    or
    https://www.stockbridgeedinburgh.com/willow-boutique/
    I got the same results in the debugger: the first attempt is 200 or 206, the second and the rest are 429.

    I still think the problem is on the hoster side.

    Yes I get the same results affecting pretty much the whole site

    Have you recently updated the plugins in your wordpress site or added a new one. You are using a plugin to share. Try updating that one or replacing it with a new one (can be the same one, it just may be that the plugin itself is the issue) Which one are you using?

    The only things that updated recently within the last two weeks was the Really Simple SSL Plugin and the Advanced Custom Fields I think. It's hard to tell as I can’t see dates as to when exactly the Plugins updated. The only other thing was that GA4 update of Google Analytics was set up properly to link to the site. (Apologies - I have know tech knowledge what so ever!)

    Hey Ryan,

    This issue is most likely related to a plugin.

    When you say you are sharing to FB, I presume you mean you are publishing the blogpost and clicking the share button. Can you confirm this or describe to me what method you use to share the post to FB.

    Do you share your website content as fast as possible, or do you take some time in between every piece of content you share ?

    I share posts almost immediately or the day after but I regularly share pages from my listings which have been on the site for years

    Have you checked like if you have some minutes difference in posting each post ? i think there will not be 429. Cause 429 means you are requesting/using certain feature multiple times frequently
