Run our easy-to-use app on your PC to create, name and save character shapes

We need people to do some straightforward font creation work using our purpose-built software which you will need to install on your PC. It is easy to use and helps the user to design, name and save the characters. It uses Java, so you will need to have the latest version of Java installed.

We are listing this under Admin/Data Entry as we feel it is closer to that than to design. The scope for creativity is minimal!

The characters in the font are made up of pixels held within a rectangular grid of cells. Using the character creation software, each cell becomes a pixel in the formation of the character.

The font comprises normal Latin characters (A-Z, upper and lower case), Arabic numerals (0-9) and some punctuation marks.

However, there will be many sizes and shapes for each character – to give 6,000 character versions in all.

We estimate it will be possible to create, name, save and check about 50 characters per hour, using the software. So there is around 120 hours work. We will pay £16 for every 100 acceptable characters created.

It will probably take you an hour or two to become familiar with how the software works and we will provide telephone and email support during this learning phase. We will pay £15 for this training time but reserve the right to reassign your workload at any stage if we feel you are not going to be able to complete on time. Your results will be submitted daily and will be checked for acceptability.

This is repetitive work, requiring attention to detail, accuracy and a good knowledge of the Latin alphabet and the generally accepted forms of each character in it. You will also need to be familiar with using simple software applications and to be able to follow instructions carefully and precisely. If you prefer creative design work, then this is not for you.

We need the work to be completed within 2 weeks, so we will probably appoint 2 or 3 people, depending on how many hours they have available. We need you to start by next Monday - 21st Jan, or sooner!
