Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Voice over/narration to be read for an educational app. 6 separate audio files are needed (one for each section). Script as below.
Choose:
To choose what I will investigate.
Before you can go visiting ancient worlds you will need to make a couple of choices.
Which object or idea are you going to improve? It is best to choose something you use and think is important.
Which civilisation will you visit? It should be at least 1000 years old and intrigue you.
Prepare:
To research within a context.
To prepare for your trip to your ancient civilisation you will need to do some research and decide the following:
-What will you pack? Think about clothing and other objects which are appropriate for the weather, culture and activities you will encounter.
-Where will you stay? What standard of accommodation can you expect? How will this differ from what you are used to?
-How will you travel once there? What modes of transport are available and which is best for you?
-Which currency will you use? Are coins used or will you trade specific goods?
- What customs and expectations will you need to be aware of? Remember that 'fitting in' with the locals will help keep your cover as a time traveller.
Explore
To analyse and predict.
Now it is time for you to travel to your ancient civilisation- don't miss your flight!
On the first night of your stay you meet some locals in a restaurant and strike up a conversation. After a while you show them your chosen object/idea. What would they say about it: What do they have that is similar? What could they use it for? Do they think it is well designed? How would they improve it?
Decide
To improve a design.
You are going to use the information you have found out about your civilisation to improve your object/idea.
Use the Thinker's Key BAR Key to improve your object/idea by making it:
Bigger- make some part of it bigger/more powerful.
Add-add something new.
R-remove or replace some part.
Justify how this makes your object/idea better for its purpose.
Share
To present my findings and engage my audience.
Your teacher may give you instructions on how to present your findings, but other than that be as creative as possible and aim to:
-take your audience on a journey from the beginning of your project to the end.
-'sell' them the improved object/idea.
-Conclude by making clear how ancient civilisations have influenced how we live today.
Evaluate
To reflect on my work and how to improve it.
Evaluate your project one step at a time, asking your peers what they thought of your project.
Answer these:
What did I do that helped my work progress quickly?
What did I do that made my work progress slowly?
How did I come up with my best ideas?
Which skills have I learned which I could use on other projects?
Can I use what I have learned in my future life/career?
Thanks,
Laura
