Experience Level: Entry
Estimated project duration: 3 - 4 weeks
We're close to initial release on a mobile-responsive appointment booking website (so it already adapts screen layout to desktop, tablet, phones) but need it to also be available on Apple Appstore and Google Play store as an app for download to iOS devices (iPhone, iPad) and Android devices (phones, tablets).
So we need you to wrap the existing site in a PhoneGap or Cordova based wrapper so it can be submitted to the Appstores. I'm the lead developer on the site, so you will be working with me to achieve this.
Please note: This will need to be a multi-page app, not a single page app (SPA). Each pageview is generated server side, and we cannot currently rewrite the front end to support an SPA (I realise that would be more efficient but we don't have the time currently).
We also need the app to give access to the phone's contact list (phonebook), update icon badges (like the little red circle on the Whatsapp homescreen icon, allow the server to send new appointment notifications to the app (using push notifications?) and maybe generate local notifications. I've already researched these and found suitable Cordova plugins for this purpose, so we just need you to help integrate those in the app build, I will be helping write the code for this.
Suggested plugins (unless you have better recommendations):
https://github.com/katzer/cordova-plugin-local-notifications - pop up notifications from app to status bar
https://github.com/katzer/cordova-plugin-badge - icon badges (numbered notifications on the icon)
https://cordova.apache.org/docs/en/latest/reference/cordova-plugin-contacts/ and demo code https://www.raymondcamden.com/2014/12/23/cordova-demo-viewing-all-contacts
http://docs.phonegap.com/tutorials/develop/push-notifications/
Thanks,
Alex (lead developer)
