Description
Experience Level: Expert
A desktop version of SwiftTrack has already been developed for online use, and is being used by several organisations on a daily basis. The requirement now is to build an application that has the same functionality as the web version, but accessible offline, on mobile devices, namely iOS, Android and Windows Mobile. It is important that the mobile version is able to synchronise both ways with the online version, as several people may login to access the same data. For example, an Assessor or Mentor may login and wish to assess a Person, who has previously performed their own assessment. The person’s data (if synchronised) would then be viewable by the Assessor/Mentor. (This is also true for an administrator, logging in to the Company Login level — they have a view of all data for all People, although they have no need for a mobile login. ) Essentially, all functionality of the current web version must be transferred in to the offline version.
Current Technology
The web version of system is built using jQuery, HTML5, CSS3 and PHP 5.6. Bootstrap 3 is used for the responsive requirements of the system.
Mobile Technology
Research and Development has been put in to various solutions for the mobile version of the application. Initially PhoneGap was to be used to bridge the gap between the web and mobile versions, although there are concerns over quality of the final product. Ionic and Angular show more promise as a platform going forward, offering better future-proofing and overall quality of product.
Data Syncing
Stable and secure syncing of mobile-web, web-mobile data in this application is vital. R&D into a traditional approach of synchronisation, using SQLite locally and signing off as ‘synced’ on upload completion, has been carried out —whereas this is a feasible approach, technologies such as PouchDB seem to offer a simpler, more effective solution.
Prospective developers are welcome to offer their own suggestions if advantages are demonstrable.
Video clips, and code samples can be provided to the developer on signing of a Non-Disclosure Agreement.
