Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
The Product
The product is me!
I am an independent software consultant, administrator, developer and trainer with over 20 years experience of business administration and software development.
My skill set is quite specific to SQL Server 2008/2005 (all aspects, including Database Engine, Integration Services, Reporting Services and Analysis Services) and SharePoint/InfoPath 2007
Amongst clients I have a reputation for deep technical skills, excellent understanding of business requirements and a user friendly attitude
The Background
I have so much work on that I don't have time for sales. At the moment 70% of my sales are through training companies. This means that for most training I can only earn at a relatively low level (because they take most of the money). When I get independent work, I can charge between £700 and £1000/day. I want to move away from dependency on training companies so that I can net a minimum of £600/day . This will enable me to restrict my earning time to 3 days/week, which will enable me to spend time growing the business to include more consultants and trainers.
The Project
I am looking for someone to sell my services on a part-time long term basis.
The services can be broadly broken down as follows:
Consultancy - Advising/problem solving SQL Server installations
Administrator - Ongoing maintenance of SQL Server database installations. A fixed charge of between £600/month and £2000/month to keep SME database installations working properly, with additional one-off costs for software development
Software development - Daily rate for development of SQL Server software
Training - On-site training at all levels for SQL Server (all aspects) , SharePoint 2007 and InfoPath 2007
Target Markets
Consultancy, Software Development and Training - Across the corporate market (SME- Global) and Public Services
Administrator /SME (and possibly some Public Services)
Target Geography
Based in the UK, but happy to work almost anywhere. (much experience of work in the USA and Europe)
Target Buyers
Head of Business Analysis/Analytical Services
IT Director
IS Director
Line Managers
Typical Sale
The following figures are based on my sales pattern for the last 6 years. So far, the recession has had no negative impact on my sales.
Consultancy: 5 days at £800/day of which commission £200/day.
Training: 3 days at £1000/day of which commission £300/day
Development: 6 days per month for 6 months at £800/day of which commission £200/day
Database Maintenance: £800/month of which commission £200/month.
Note that most of the Database Maintenance work is done remotely and therefore doesn't actually require that I spend a day on each job. So this is an area where ongoing commission should rise steadily.
The Person
The following qualities are minimum requirements:
Able to work without supervision, and prepared to put in enough effort to achieve the sales levels needed
Knowledge and experience of the commercial market for software consultancy/training solutions
Enough understanding of SQL Server and SharePoint to be able to sell convincingly to corporate clients
Integrity - This is something which must not be oversold
Consistency - I am looking for a steady income stream over the next 3 years
Methodology
The prospecting process is up to you and at your cost
Proposals will, initially at least, have to be cleared by me prior to submission to the client
Payment will be upon receipt of payment by the client
Likely Income
Based on current experience, first year sales of 150 days/annum will pay you about £30,000 for what should be a part-time job. Any sales above this level will mean that I have to expand the business rather more quickly than I had intended, which would be a nice problem to have.
