Experience Level: Intermediate
I require a thesis on the topic of “QOS in WiMAX” of about 90 pages.
I am providing to you following details related to my thesis topic.
Research Domain:
Wireless Networking
Description:
Bandwidth availability and requirement are complementary to each other. The development of bandwidth hungry applications raises the demand for networks providing more and more bandwidth and
provision of high bandwidth initiates the development of more bandwidth demanding applications. Different approaches are taken to provide the high bandwidth.
The range from channel encoding to integrated and distributed services. The task of the researcher in this topic is to study the approaches used for QoS provisioning at Network and upper layers.
What is WiMAX:
IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) has published IEEE 802.16 standard for broadband wireless networks.
This is point to multi point network. A network based on this standard is also known as wireless metropolitan area network.
WiMAX (World wide Interoperability for Microwave Access) is a forum started by the wireless computer networking equipment vendors to produce compatible and interoperable devices for the
IEEE802.16 standard. The forum certifies the products developed by different vendors for quality and interoperability. In literature
both terms (WiMAX and IEEE802.16) are used interchangeably.
WiMAX has the potential to replace many existing
telecommunication infrastructure. It can replace the existing fixed land line telephone networks by providing voice and data traffic at desired rate. In mobile networks, WiMAX can replace most of the
cellular networks.
QoS in WiMAX
There are various types of data services that a network has to support. These services include: Video, Voice, Data, Real time traffic and normal data traffic. It is required in a computer network
to provide the required quality of service to the traffic. For example:
voice traffic should be sent at a particular speed, if voice is either sent slower to the required speed or faster, the voice could not be
even understood. Similarly video traffic needs the synchronization of voice and picture with a particular speed of packet traffic. A computer network (routers, switches, gateways etc.) should be intelligent enough to provide required bandwidth to a particular service.
A network will not be useful, if it could not recognize the traffic type and its requirements. The main factors include the jitter and latency.
All traffic types are categorized in IEEE802.16 as
under:
’· UGS (Unsolicited Grant Service)
rtPS (Real Time Packet Service)
’· ErtPS (Extended real time packet service)
’· nrtPS (Non real time packet service)
’· BE (Best Effort)
