Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
To do a market research to find companies that are direct competitors of Amazon prime Now service model. Criteria as follows:
- The company needs to own some inventory (hence, model like Instacart, Google Express and Shutl are not considered as they do not own inventory). Amazon Prime Now has some warehouses to fulfil products from but leverage on the local market such as restaurants and vendors to offer increase product range.
- The company needs to manage portion of the delivery service (e.g., Amazon uses Amazon Flex to recruit lifestyle couriers for deliveries).
- Provides super fast delivery services using crowdsourced/lifestyle couriers.
Turnaround: 3 days.
Outcome: Identify at least 7 companies anywhere globally and provide a brief outline of the company service model and characteristics.
Alittle more details:
A little bit more about the Prime Now Model. Amazon has some micro-warehouses in the areas of operations to fulfil online orders from their fulfilment centres. The bulk of other product types including hot meals come from local vendors where stocks are fulfilled directly from these partners' inventory and using lifestyle couriers to make the deliveries. They will pick up the orders from the local restaurants, for example, and deliver to the customers' homes using the GPS that directs them to the destinations. Customers can view the delivery progress using the same app that reflects the location tracked using GPS to view the delivery status. Hence, Prime Now is basically a multi-sided platform that connects vendors with couriers and customers. However Amazon is now simply a platform provider (software provider), it manages it own inventory for fulfilment as well. The provision of platform allows the company to increase its product variety without having to own them.
In summary, models like Instacart, UrberRus, Shutl, Postmates, Deliv are purely software developers that create the multi-sided platforms and does not own inventories. hence, we are not interested. Flipkart, Snapdeal and Redmart would be examples in the similar category and is of direct interest to us. Please do not repeat these examples. We have no country and size restriction. Hence, any where in the world and whether it's a new start up or established player is of less importance than being able to identify them and highlight their business models (e.g., offerings, pricing mechanisms whether through subscription, speed of delivery - must be someday or less, etc). Thank you.
