I am having trouble with Google Analytics, namely the source/medium and referral information for my website and need some help to resolve this issue.
I'll briefly explain the ideal visitor journey and where the issue arises:
1. Our landing page http://www.examplerestaurant.co.uk/
2. Our 2nd page http://www.examplerestaurant.co.uk/reserve-now/
3. A widget calendar on the /reserve-now/ page takes user to a 3rd party booking website to make their restaurant reservation (DesignMyNight)
4. On completion of booking, a redirect from Design My Night takes user to our 'thank you for booking' page. http://www.examplerestaurant.co.uk/booking-complete/. (The URL is used to track our booking goal conversions.)
The issue is that Google Analytics recognises 'Design My Night' (the 3rd party booking website) as the medium / source and the 'referrer' for the the goal conversions, so I can't tell how these guests originally came to our site (direct, search, Facebook Ads, email campaigns etc). I have added UTMs to my Facebook ads and email campaigns, but I'm uncertain of how this is helpful when I can only see that Design My Night is showing as the source/medium and referrer.
I spoke to a friend who suggested that it might be a relatively simple task to adapt the data funnel and build simple UTMs for major traffic sources so we can understand attribution, but my lack of Google Analytics experience and expertise means I don't know how to put this into practice (and whether it actually is the answer).
