SEO Audit for website with On/Off page strategy please!

Hope you're well.

We are a small marketing & digital provider based in Dorset. We are growing our client base and are always taking on new clients.

As we are growing we are looking for individuals to continue providing work to our existing and new client base.

We have one longer standing client in particular that requires an SEO audit as everything we have tried to do (and we've tried a lot!) seems to not quite hit the mark for one particular keyphrase. Of course, this is the keyphrase that they most want to be on page 1 for!

We are looking in to getting a fresh pair of eyes to look over their on & off page and to make recommendations on how to proceed. In the longer term we are also looking in to provide further work in this capacity as the demand for our service increases.

We are naturally wary of providing any implementation in regards to backlink building ( as I think that was what got them slapped by the recent updates ) but this is something that we are willing to try with a white hat approach if you can provide examples of successful campaigns in 2014.

We've already disavowed a lot of backlinks from a previous supplier and want to move forward with a better backlink building campaign and any on page recommendations.

To recap:

1) Detailed SEO Audit of clients website outlining problems / quick wins.

2) Implementation strategy with regards to:
2a) On page - content/code
2b) Backlinks etc.
2c) Competitor analysis.

3) Anything else you feel will be strategically helpful.
