Description
Experience Level: Expert
Estimated project duration: 1 - 2 weeks
Kind of design: Theme/template
Num. of web pages: 6 templates.
Description of every page: Homepage. Currently looks like a classic HP. But, the header supports a 2"x2" banner that appears when a particular product is placed on "Super Special". I'll show you this if we talk. It's straight-forward.
Category Pages: Each link in the Vertical Navbar results in a "Category Page". What may need some re-thinking is that some Category Pages contain a sampling of products for that category. This might be confusing to new visitors who might think those are the ONLY products available (when actually, their may be dozens of products in the next sub-category).
Ideas for the visual style: I'll leave the aesthetics and usability improvements to you. I'm just he Project Mgr.
Things to avoid: I want to avoid the burden of re-organizing our products. If possible, I'd like to keep the current "Category Page"/"Product Detail Page" structure. But, I'll consider any design you feel strongly about.
Website url: www.ArizonaTools.com
Website information: We sell construction tools to busy contractors. We don't like to attract the Home Depot shopper. Our customers purchase many tools at 5:30 AM, then then rush off to make a living. They shop our site cause it's fast for them to find what they already KNOW they want. And checkout is easy and fast.
Urls to draw inspiration from: Just search any Tools site for things like "Plastic Welders", or "Raytek Temperature Gun". Some tool sites are well done. But others cluter-up the page with tools only a home-owner would be interested in. Again, our target is trades contractors.
Extra notes: I'm looking for an experienced USA, Canadain, or British website designer to do a remake of our site. (Sorry, I won't accept bids from other nationals).
Our website, www.ArizonaTools.com, currently consists of 6 templates (Homepage, Category pages, Product Detail pages, Checkout pages, the "Product Specials" page, and the support pages like Contact Us, etc.).
I simply want a more vibrant, interesting looking website. This likely means a new header image and page color. But, usability may need to be upgraded too. Things like how we're currently displaying the "Add to Cart" button, improving the Checkout pages, and other usability issues.
I'm also looking for a Designer familiar with SEO. It's vital that our new design be optimized for ranking. (Such things as the use of H1 tags, text positioning, etc.). If you're NOT familiar with Google's algorithms, please don't apply.
Because this site has 14,000 products, I really don't want a new design that will force us to reorganize our product database. We currently use a classic Vertical Navbar to organize the tools into logical categories. Each category currently displays a sample of tools within that "Category Page", and sub-categories appear nested in the V-Navbar under the parent category. At this time, I suspect the 'sampling of tools' page is confusing to the visitor. We may need to reconsider that design.
Eventually, clicking through the categories brings the user to the Product Detail Page, which provides all specifics related to one product (along with the "Add to Cart" button). I'd like to keep this approach if possible, though I'll consider extensive changes if you feel strongly about them.
So, while the templates are now created in Smarty, I don't need you to code them. I just need an EXPERIENCED designer to do some Photoshop renditions of how the pages should look. My coders can then do the implementation. I would need the header image from you in a JPeg format.
Before any work began, I'd insist on talking with you first to be sure we're in agreement on the scope of the project and to assess the validity of your ideas. That way, neither of us waste time/money. I've been a website Project Manager for 15 years, so you'll find me easy to work with and won't jerk you around. :)
The best way to proceed would be to hand-sketch a WIRE design indicating crude layout (initially for the Category and Product Detail pages). We'd then discuss and tweak it by phone. Once that's done, you'd design the header image, and once approved you'd provide a fully fleshed-out Photoshop rendition for each template.
Again, I am only considering USA, Canadian, or British designers because I prefer their sensibility to USA aesthetics and web shopping usability.
Thanks.
