Description
Experience Level: Expert
Estimated project duration: 1 - 2 weeks
Project BRIEF
Looking for a creative, multi-skilled web designer to create a custom website in WordPress. You are looking for a project that allows you to demonstrate your creative skills, whilst delivering a reliable, functional build that has great UI/UX. You can demonstrate what you claim!
We already have a domain name and WordPress hosting, and will register you as a user once accepted.
Please feel free to ask questions. We want to get the website airborne as soon after the end of the month as possible.
PROPOSER PROFILE
We are a small, independent web-based startup in the climate change information sector. We want to influence the climate change discussion, and be a disruptive presence in that discussion, challenging the way we do everything, rethinking everything to imagine a better world. We are more tech and science than John Lennon, but believe that the world is about more than money.
Our ambition is to position ourselves as the leading commentator on responses to climate change by tech, government, business, science, communities… We will unashamedly call out the bad actors and climate deniers – we are disrupters of ‘business as usual’. We do so from a scientific, academic and humanitarian background, so an authoritative source.
We also aim to become the focus of intelligent activism in climate change.
We are nothing without our user community – we want engagement and momentum to evolve from our users.
And by the way, ‘We’ is me and my girlfriend’s dog, Woody… at least so far. But I’m thinking bigger, much bigger. That’s where you come in!
CORE TARGET AUDIENCE
• Age 25-45
• All genders – maybe parent?
• Professional / educated
• Environmentally-conscious concerned citizens
• Not afraid to take a position, take a stand
• Position themselves by principles and the need to address climate change, not politics
• Looking for green expertise and leadership
• Want to achieve, but ethically – don’t believe in profit at any cost
• Want their workplaces to reflect best green practice, not green PR
WEBSITE GOALS
• ENCOURAGE RETHINKING!
• Raise awareness of climate change developments, and the need for urgent response
• Define us as a thought leader, “your insider and guide” on climate change adaptation
• Raise profile to generate other opportunities, including speaking, external commentary
• Create participation through user community/supporter database
• Drive traffic to blog and podcast (eventually YouTube also)
• Encourage dissemination/reshare of output for quick user base build
• Monetise our output through a variety of channels, including sponsorship and selective advertising, an online store, plus subscriptions once established. Also external speaking assignments.
TASK – PHASE 1
This proposal is for phase one of the project, aiming to capture audience and evaluate user response, before refinement / remodelling in phase 2.
• Website build in WordPress blocks, with strong emphasis on mobile first/responsiveness. The laptop version needs to knock it out of the park too, mind!
• Must be proposer-editable (I’m not going to butcher your work!), I’m familiar with Kadence Blocks for WP, but I’m willing to adapt to Elementor or similar.
• Our tagline is “RETHINK. EVERYTHING.”, and that needs to be reflected in the website design and functionality, so I’m looking for creativity and innovation, with leeway for the designer to interpret the brief around the necessary elements.
• The key guidance is that we want visitors to find what they want easily, and in as few clicks as possible, stay on the site and keep returning.
• We want to encourage and facilitate community , engagement building, creativity, sharing, and reward participation.
• Innovative, great UI/UX but highly and reliably functional - SPEEEED!
• The user journey through the website must be as easy and engaging as possible, to encourage participation and engagement.
• The site presentation needs to have energy, but not be too ‘busy’.
• The blog/pod page must be fully functional and search results must be dynamically updated by new posts. The same applies to the user forum.
I’ve produced a landing page mockup and ‘wireframe’ of sorts, but I’m hoping you can do better. Also a rough UX flow, plus desired included elements. I’m contracting out logo design separately, but the page header logo as shown explains the site exactly, so I’m keen to keep that – the logo is for brand recognition, and will be non-verbal and abstract.
