Description
Experience Level: Entry
I have a 220watt centrifugal fan motor that is controlled by a PWM (Pulse WIdth Modulator). When the motor is connected directly to a 240volt AC power supply it runs at full speed. However when I connect it to a PWM the motor speed is greatly reduced even when the power controller is tuned full on. Added to this is the fact that the motor achieves this maximum when the controller potentiometer is only half-on, when I continue to 'turn-up' the power the motor speed does not increase any further.
I think I need a 'bias' resistor of some sort to overcome this problem, with maybe a diode to stop any input from the power source feeding back into the output of the PWM. If someone could help me with a solution I would greatly appreciate it.
Many thanks, Gary

The problem might simply be that you are using the wrong type of speed controller. PWM is typically used to control DC power. If your AC fan motor is an induction motor (most are), then you need an AC motor speed controller which is of similar design to a light dimmer.

what type of PWM circuit you are using? share some detail about the circuit, it is most probably be solved by using a single diode.
-
Can you show a quick circuit diagram of what you have currently?

What type of motor do you have?
