Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
First draft due 6/11/18
Design instructions:
Editable illustration, ai. format, trim size: 7” x 10”
Figure ideas:
1. Follow overall idea/framework from example figure showing pathways of human exposure, but in this case the scenario would be an oil spill where dispersants are used.
2. A marine water scene with a surface oil slick and a clean-up boat with worker dispersant application. Include inhalation exposure from aerosolized dispersed oil and potential for dermal route for the worker. Include an aerial dispersant application from plane further off in background? Look at the NOAA cross-section illustrations for how they showed fish.
3. A dispersed oil 'plume' in water column and example species commonly eaten (e.g. red snapper, oysters, shrimp) with an ingestion pathway to a family--include a child. Might need to signify subsea dispersant application creating the plume in water column.
4. A beach with dermal exposure route from tar balls and aero solization of dispersed oil in wave action for beach clean-up workers; clean-up workers on boat and on shoe should have protective gear.
This is the link to some NOAA figures; several of them have a similar design elements to what we are envisioning, see image of Exxon 25 years or check out this side for style preferences: https://response.restoration.noaa.gov/multimedia/infographics
Stylistically, the new figure/graphic should resemble/relate to Figure 3-1 Overview of Deepwater Horizon Contamination Exposures (attached) as far as arrows, colors, how the oil is represented, and general look. Elements like the clean-up boat and shore workers will need to be called out/enlarged as indicated on the hand drawn sample (attached). Minimal text/labels.
Please contact me with questions.
