Description
Experience Level: Expert
Estimated project duration: 3 - 4 weeks
Information for the business: We sell ancient art, antiquities and ancient coins online.
Design details: We are prominent dealers in ancient art and have recently commissioned a new website to be designed. Amongst the ideas presented to us by the designers was a map on each product page showing the geographical origin of the object (see attached image).
We really like this idea and believe it really adds something to the overall feel of the page, however we'd like to take their idea a bit further. As you can see currently the map is a simple view of the entire world with a large dot placed on the desired location, we are envisaging a range of maps each centred on the specific region in question.
For example, if the object were from the city of Rome, the map would simply display Italy with a dot over Rome, or if from London the map would only show the British Isles etc. Conversely if the object were from a region as opposed to a city, for example the Roman Empire, the map would show the entirety of Europe and the appropriate area shaded (hatched) as opposed to dotted. We are also playing with the idea of including some maps with the names of cities, for example, a map of medieval England showing the prominent settlements.
We are online sellers and its important that our website appears simple, easy to navigate and free of clutter, we'd like the maps to stick to that same basic aesthetic; making use of simple line drawn maps as shown in the attached image.
Ultimately the job will consist of producing upwards of 300 maps, although of course there will be many where you already have the same geographical region and are just adding dots and/or shading to each blank map. For example we will require around 10 maps of Italy, each with a single dot denoting the relevant cities. We will also require a blank copy of each geographical region so that we can create more maps in the future if needs be.
What we would like to see is a couple of concept maps, perhaps one with just a dot, one with shading and one with the names of cities, they need to be hi-res.
Message me if you have any further questions.
All the best,
Alex
Target audience: Antiquities collectors, people interested in history.
Ideas for the visual style: See image attached, simple line drawn map.
Preferred colors: Black or gold on white background.
Where the design will be used: Web
Extra notes: Although we'd definitely like the design to be simple, we're not at all adverse to people coming up with new ideas for the visual style. For example we're also trying to play up the 19th century exploration/adventure feel about exploring our website, I've included one of our context shots which we will be using as headers etc. to give you an idea of what I mean, perhaps that style could be utilised in the maps as well?
