Description
Experience Level: Expert
Estimated project duration: less than 1 week
OVERVIEW
We are making an e-learning video course about interviewing with a career expert called Daniel Porot. You can find out more about him here: http://porot.com/about. We have edited together the first 10-minute module and we want to add 14 illustrations to this video.
This is a first milestone project. There will be 6 such modules in the finished film and we have 3 films at least to make. We may have 20x this much to do this year. Hopefully this is the beginning of a beautiful collaboration.
The most important thing to grasp for this job is that we want fast and simple sketches with wit and energy. We don’t want detail, perfect lines or anything ornate.
PLEASE WATCH THE VIDEO BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE: https://vimeo.com/143389093
BACKGROUND - DANIEL POROT
Daniel Porot is probably the most in-demand career expert in the world (he travels 200 days a year lecturing to students and others all around the world).
As well as being a genius about careers and has a unique presentation style: he draws his presentations by hand on a touchscreen in real time as he talks. These illustrations work brilliantly live, but for this e-learning film we want something a little more polished.
WHAT WE NEED DONE NOW
The essence of this job is to re-draw the 14 illustrations in this film: https://vimeo.com/143389093. Details of these and a very few notes are in the details pdf attached.
The goal for these 14 drawings is the following:
- To "honour" Daniel's style but with more polish and precision
- To make sure all written text is clear, aligned and completely legible
- To flesh out some visual ideas
- To add (now and then not for every illustration) a bit of visual sparkle
- But - VERY IMPORTANT - to keep to the style of simple hand-drawn line drawings
PLEASE resist the temptation to do a lot. We want simple fast lively messy drawings (just less messy than Daniel’s)
The attached brief explains which 14 drawings we need.
PROCESS
As you can see we need these drawings to appear in a video.
Once we have awarded the job our plan is as follows:
- We would like you to submit the 14 drawings to us for comment (as pdfs, jpegs whatever you like).
- We will quickly review with our editor to make sure they will work in the film.
- If we have anything to add we will give you notes.
- Then we will want you to quickly re-draw the drawings while screen-recording yourself doing so.
This screen recording should be done fast and IN ONE TAKE (we don't mind seeing corrections and adjustments which we can leave in or edit out) and we will overwrite Daniel's drawings with your drawings.
One crucial point is that we will need the elements of your drawings to appear in the same order as the elements in Daniel's drawings (so they tell the story in the same way and sync with his words).
If you think there is a much better way to approach this work please tell us.
INSPIRATION
- Daniel’s own drawings in the video
- Ligne claire / Tintin (though we do NOT want anything like this level of detail)
- RSA Animate (again we do NOT want anything like this level of detail)
TIMINGS AND DEADLINES
We would like to make a decision at the end of next week and would like to see your 15 drawings by March 24th. We will respond with notes by March 28th and we would want screen recordings by March 30th.
DELIVERABLES
We would like:
14 line drawings for review (as jpegs, pdfs whatever) by end Thursday March 24th.
screen recordings (720p, MP4 format) of these being re-drawn by end Weds March 30th.
YOUR PROPOSAL
Please don't write more than a few sentences. If you have 10 minutes to devote to this please draw something instead of writing something.
If you did want to draw a drawing the one I would like to see most is No.7 (“Rehearse”) from the detailed spec.
Otherwise please highlight NOT MORE THAN 3 portfolio items which show off what you would bring to this job.
