Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Estimated project duration: Ongoing
Information for the business: Provide services to children with special needs and their families
Design details: We want to illustrate a series of books to help children with their self awareness, understanding language concepts, and facilitating expressive language, either through speech or alternative communication ie by pointing to the picture.
Each book will have a composed song to go with it (as per the words per page on the book). Illustrations need to be one per page (books to be half of A4), very bright primary colours with CLEAR pictures. No background art. Need to be fun and engaging. Children with special needs are visual learners - so we want to be able to visualise the key concepts e.g. if talking about ears - then ears in the middle - with shut (hands covering ears), open (hands cupping ears), wiggle, (ears wiggling) and move...so all concepts are illustrated around the ears. This then becomes a communication aid for the child, and the child can choose which concept comes next, by pointing, if they do not speak. I also want the key word written under the illustration ie shut, open, wiggle, move.
Here is an example:
I Move My LITTLE Body
I move my body move move move
I shake my body shake shake shake
I turn my body turn turn turn
I hug and love my body.
I twinkle my fingers twinkle twinkle twinkle
I shut my fingers shut shut shut
I open my fingers open open open
Move move my fingers
I wriggle my toes wriggle wriggle wriggle
I squeeze my toes squeeze squeeze squeeze
I stretch my toes stretch stretch stretch
Move move my toes
I knock my knees knock knock knock
I pat my knees pat pat pat
I squeeze my knees squeeze squeeze squeeze
Move move my knees
I pat my shoulders pat pat pat
I shrug my shoulders shrug shrug shrug
I shake my shoulders shake shake shake
Move move my shoulders
I tap my wrists tap tap tap
I turn my wrists turn turn turn
I shake my wrists shake shake shake
Move move my wrists
I tap my elbows tap tap tap
I pat my elbows pat pat pat
I shake my elbows shake shake shake
Move move my elbows
I pat my neck pat pat pat
I stretch my neck stretch stretch stretch
I bend my neck bend bend bend
Move move my neck
I move my body move move move
I shake my body shake shake shake
I turn my body turn turn turn
I hug and love my body.
Target audience: Children
Ideas for the visual style: Very bold, clear pictures. Main idea in middle with key ideas around. Will also be a communication aid and song book for children who cannot speak or read.
Things to avoid: Too much clutter, Pastels, water colours,
Preferred colors: primary colours - rainbow colours. Bright and crisp
Where the design will be used: e-books, printed books
Extra notes: This project will be the ownership of our business. All royalties will go to our business.
