Description
Experience Level: Expert
The book is about abour helping 'ordinary' people develop the skills of everyday counselling, It's a boiled down, but not dumbed down, jargon-free version of one of the world's most influenial textbooks in counselling psychoogy. Its underlying message is that anyone with common sense and a willingness to learn new skills can become an effective helper, better able to support friends and colleagues who are going through a difficult time.
The cover needs to feature drawings of a range of people engaged in one-to-one conversations. The figures are small, almost miniature. There are perhaps 20 pairs of people talking to each other, arranged around the page. We can see from their appearance that they come from different backgrounds. They could be teachers, doctors, charity workers, engineers, parents, supervisors.. whatever. The impression, in short, is that they represent a slice of life. They are male and female, from teenagers and young adults to older people. They represent a racial mix. A few are in non-Western dress. Besides clothes, etc. you can use some minimal background detail to suggest different settings -- office, home, college, surgery, workshop, prison and so on. Some pairs are standing while chatting, most are sitting down, close to each other.
I am open to ideas about drawing style. As a starting point I've uploaded an example of some clip art that gives you some idea of the overall effect i'm looking for, though not necessarily the style. Plenty of white space. Clean and neat but friendly.
I know what I don't want. I don't want 'cartoony' figures. with exagerated features. or anything else 'cheesy' And I don't want images that look computer generated. The audience for the book are smart adults.
I guess I'll know the right style when I see it. So please send me a couple (or more0 samplrs of how you'd depict a couple of people talking to each other.
There's no immediae rush. The book is written but won't be published until January, 2021.
I've spent most of my career as a copywritr/creative director in London advertising agencies, I'm used to working remotely.
