Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Information for the business: Axeis Provide engineering services to the film and TV industry
Industry: Technology
Design details: We need help from an industrial designer to develop the outer aesthetic of a new heavy lift drone that will be used to lift large cinema cameras for the film and tv industry.
The design has a few constraints that should guide the ID:
-It requires 8 motors that spin 20" propellers, these are arranged in a coaxial X arrangement (see attachments).
-The payload (camera) is mounted underneath and will be a 'Freefly Movi M15' stabilised gimbal. The drone requires a spigot on the bottom to mount the camera gimbal.
-There are 4 batteries that can be placed anywhere on the drone, either split apart, grouped together or in pairs. The batteries need to be easily accessible so they can be removed and replace with fresh packs after a flight.
-The Drone must have a body section that is large enough to house the electronics.
-The only other item required is the parachute which is housed a 100mm diameter cylinder. We would prefer that the parachute cylinder in encompassed into the design so that it is slightly or fully recessed.
The build material will be full carbon fibre.
The direct competitor of this drone is the 'Intuitive Aerial - Aerigon' which has 12 rotors instead of 8. The ID should not be too similar to this.
This drone 'look' should be modern design and reasonably unique. Not industrial like the 'Freefly - Alta 8' (google this).
The drone will be painted gloss white and can either have black accents or masked to show the raw carbon fibre weave.
This drone looks to industrial and symmetrical. http://aeronavics.com/fleet/aeronavics-skyjib/
We expect sketches only from the ID, no CAD. eg: http://65.media.tumblr.com/368b3d5799eb3d42ba59b5b2402d5f55/tumblr_n1ngurwZar1sii9woo2_1280.jpg
Ideas for the visual style: Modern - Curves, with a hint of industrial feel.
Things to avoid: Must not look plain, nor aggressive
Preferred colors: Gloss White with exposed Carbon Fibre
Extra notes:
The attachments show the batteries together in the middle of the drawing but could be located anywhere suitable. eg. they could be behind a flap or sitting on top for easy replacement.
The motors are shown with a small piece of electronics next to them, this is the 'electronic speed controller' and will be fitted inside the arm(s).
The parachute is positioned at 45degrees in the drawing but could be sticking out the top or pointing straight back.
