Description
Experience Level: Expert
Design details: This will be a 'cottage industry' design product. A low level, collapsible, workbench for multi trade, domestic, camping, general usage. Main advantages over current workbench products [especially the Black n Decker 'Workmate'] include: ready made product assembly, instant assembly for use, holds and releases any shape of product which requires cutting/fixing/holding instantly by applying knee pressure to a restraining clamping 'Saddle' placed over an object. The Saddle holds the object tight against an straight edged, guide rail. The guide rail can be levered to the underside of the workbench, when not required in order to 'free' the worktop to operate as an uninterrupted, flat worktop for other purposes, or as a seat.
The main objectives of the brief includes the following for a fixed price package : product design, logo [for "Saddle Up 'N' Saw"], packaging design and an IKEA style instruction guide. The brief must permit the designed product, logo, packaging and instruction booklet to be brought to the market with a breakdown of expected construction costs per unit.
In terms of product design - the main materials required will be a plyboard worktop and tubular steel 'X' frame, collapsible legs. Other materials should be off the shelf items [as far as possible] and specified as part of the brief.
I have previously worked as a multi-tradesman, but have a Degree in History and a Law Conversion Degree. I am well attuned to both practical and professional knowledge, but need the experience of a professional product designer to bring this product to market on a sensible budget.
I have honed the working prototype over the past 12 months and look forward to hearing from you. We can discuss you expected price.
Thanks,
Austen
Ideas for the visual style: Forward facing 'Italics' for the wording "Saddle Up 'N' Saw!
