Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
We are a specialty travel publisher, on a religious theme. Our books are quite short but glossy with several photographic images, also at least one originated map.
We have a shorter version of our Pilgrim's Guide to Oberammergau and its Passion Play - this will be titled "Oberammergau 2020 - The Village and its Passion Play" that we need to bring to print in the Autumn, but crucially need to have cover images in place straight away. This is because the book is sold in bulk to tour operators who can have personalised/branded covers with their logos and short message. As we hopefully sign up more operator clients they will need to see how their branding looks on the cover. This event in German Alps where they act out the Passion is only performed once in 10 years, the next one being in 2020. I have good files of the older book but only PDFs. However, we are currently at print with the new Pilgrim's Guide and should have InDesign files which feature a revised text design. Some of the chapters in this longer book have exactly the same text, but of course we will want to change things around image wise and perhaps design wise also. We also have a client who wants to put some advertorial into their books and their in-house design department will need a specification soon so that they can go ahead and produce the material. Otherwise the extent - 64 pages - can be done at our mutual convenience. My own competence is an experienced small press, having worked with five designers on 12 books, but never in production for a large publisher and I certainly do not work in InDesign or Quark! So I think I know what I am doing and am always willing to learn more. I am flexible with how a Designer wants to work. As a small press we are keen on price! But the commercial nature of our work means there is often scope for extra jobs. For the extent, the source material is always original text/Word files and mostly jpeg/JPG images; the maps can be PDFs or native files ... and we have ironed out some issues with the Cartographer who is excellent but includes a lot of his own effects. However I mentioned that well organised .eps files should also be available.
I hope that is a good starting brief, and I look forward to hearing your interest and availability. We have two more guides to publish before March.
