Description
Experience Level: Entry
Hi,
I'm looking for a jewellery designer for a long term relationsship to design various items inspired by Viking art styles and culture! If this sounds good to you, please read on, and get in touch.
I run a UK business that sells Viking style items, including jewellery. We work with craftsment from around the world that produce their own Viking inspired jewellery, which we sell in the UK.
Due to Coronavirus, there has been a lot of disruption to our supply chain, as it is global and mostly consists of small businesses and individuals. As a result, we are looking to work with a designer to produce our own jewellery designs to add to our collection. We will be using a small foundry in the UK that can take the 3D model (Digital or wax) and produce these for us.
This will help us add new designs which are produced locally and have less risks to our supply chain. The metals that we're most likely making the jewellery from are silver, bronze and pewter.
We will want to work long term with the right designer, so are looking for someone who can be passionate about Viking art styles and is willing to learn about the symbolism as time goes on. We will start with breifs that are more prescriptive, but as time goes on will be happy to take ideas and suggestions from you, if you have developed an appreciation for the art style.
We are looking to produce a combination of historic reproductions as well as modern designs that take inspiration from the different art styles. We can give you details of what sorts of things are popular. Ther are a lot of animalistic elements (wolves, ravens, dragons, bears, even a squirrel), knotwork styles, geometric symbols
Over time we will be producing pendants, arm rings, bangles, hair beads, rings, metal tips for drinking horns, belt buckles and various other items.
I imagine that the flow would be we issue a brief you come back with some sketches, and we have a bit of discussion on what we like and what we want to see, and then you produce a 3D model which may need some slight tweaks. It may be the case that when we send the design to the foundry that need some changes to help from a manufacturing perspective.
As an initial project we would like to start with a small collection of hair beads. Perhaps 4-6 designs with a consistent style, but each featuring a different symbol. This would be a fairly simple start. To give you an idea of what I mean, I have included a link to some that we already have that are part of the same range and have different symbols.

https://skullvikings.com/collections/hair-jewellery/products/valknut-hammer-bead
https://skullvikings.com/collections/hair-jewellery/products/trinity-knot-triquetra-hair-bead
Please let me know what the cost of designing a set of hair beads would be?
Additionally, please give me an idea of likely costs for the following:
Thor's Hammer Pendant design (Historical reporduction of Skane Thors Hammer)
Modern interpretation of Viking Arm Ring (knotwork band with wolf, raven and dragon head variants)
-e.g. https://skullvikings.com/collections/viking-bracelets-and-torcs/products/fenrir-wolf-head-arm-ring-1
Raven Hair slide, similar style to this:

Please get in touch, idealy with a link to any relevant designs that you have done, and how you would expect us to work together.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Skal,
Steve
