Description
Experience Level: Entry
Hi,
I'm looking for an illustrator who enjoys creating character-based cartoon work to accompany a series of blogs that I am writing. If a good illustrator comes forward who I can work with well, then a long-term involvement is on the cards, but in this first instance I am looking for a single illustration for a single blog.
How it works
I write regular blog posts. In this first instance, I will be providing a single blog, but long term it will be 2 per week and potentially grow to more. I would like ORIGINAL and ENGAGING cartoons to accompany the blog. The illustrator will be provided with the full blog to read and pick a single scene from to draw to and then make a cartoon that is the main image to promote that blog piece.
What I need
* Someone who delivers quickly. The turnover time for a piece should be no more than 48 hours, and 24 hours in most cases.
* Someone who can commit long term. If you get this one off piece and then turn round afterwards and say you can't commit to 2 per week if I like you, then you are wasting my time! Please only apply if you want regular work.
* Someone whose work is original. If you think for a single second that cut and paste are your best friends, this is not for you. I need 100% original work.
* Someone who can deliver quality work without constant returns for edits.
The cartoon
* Needs to be a single full colour piece that contains a scene, completed in budget every time. A scene may comprise of more than one character, plus a location and background elements - for example, a group of people talking in a pub, or a man waiting for a bus on a London street, or someone going skydiving in the alps. It will be a case of 'read the blog, pick a scene that fits the major theme of the blog, draw the scene, colour the scene, submit'.
* Think 'newspaper cartoon panel' - that should put you on the right path.
* Must be delivered in an electronic web-happy format.
This job
THIS job, the one for the budget here, the one which has guaranteed payment - is for ONE single image to accompany a blog I have already written. The successful freelancer will be supplied with the blog piece and needs to be able to complete the image within 48 hours of that delivery.
We can talk about further stuff after that's all been done, if we both like how it went.
The 'preferred' bit
I'd like someone from the UK. This isn't because of any belief that people outside the UK don't have the skills, but I want to be able to phone them and chat to them at speed like a native and have them understand exactly what I am saying right off the bat. If you don't know what I mean by 'like Wetherspoons on a Friday night' or 'coming out of Greggs in the rain' or 'getting frustrated by bad etiquette on the tube' then THIS IS NOT FOR YOU.
The 'weeding out the idiots' bit
Well done, you got this far. If you still think you'd like this opportunity, then make sure you start your proposal with the answer to "I think penguins are great because..." in 12 words or less. Yup - just like those competitions in magazines when I was a kid. You fail to manage this simple task - no chance at the job. Zero. Won't read your bid. Straight in the bin. You get the idea. If you don't think penguins are great then lie, ffs, it's not a test about penguins, it's about whether you can follow a brief!
Thanks for reading! Looking forward to some great proposals.
