Design details: This is an idea for a tea making aid called Tea Pockets. They're based on the notion of the need to make tea as easily as possible once you’re engrossed in a film or TV program.
I don’t know about you but my partner get’s irate when I press pause on the TV and head to the kitchen to make tea. I'm a bit of a long-brew merchant so it takes a few minutes to get my tea right.
Anyway, I started using a tray with tea dish for the bag and a small jug for milk, the spoon and the cup of brewing tea of course. But that's a bit of a faff.
So Tea Pockets could be the answer to that. I've attached a picture of a terrible piece of clay modelling on my part but at least it gets the idea across. Quite simply, they’re small containers that hang off the lip of the tea mug/cup.
I envisage you'd carry three of them on your mug. One for milk, one for sugar and one for the bag. So size-wise you'd need to keep that in mind – so three can fit around the circumference of the average tea mug. Also, actual volume inside the pocket – I didn't experiment with the model I made but I'd ask that you look at this. I guess the most they'd have to carry were 3 teaspoons of sugar, enough milk for a milky tea and enough space for a tea bag. So probably the biggest size would be for the milk. And they should all be the same size as that one I think.
Another thing to think about is the amount of gap space for the hanging part. Obviously it needs to hang over most average lip thicknesses.
To fit around the body, the inner wall has to be curved but I guess you will have figured that out.
Could there be some sort of simple texture to the relief on the outer wall? Some sort of modern, geometric relief perhaps?
And once you’ve used them and taken them off the mug, would they stand easily so that they don't drip etc? Is there a design feature that could help that?
Also, can you emboss ‘Tea Pockets’ somewhere on the design? I’ll eventually get them 3D printed. Could you suggested a 3D printer material?
That’s the brief. I look forward to hearing from any interested parties. Thank you.
