Description
Experience Level: Expert
I need assistance in bringing a food container concept to life!
I think the first step is to talk to you - someone with experience that can steer this project in the right direction.
This job post is for an initial paid consultation.
SKILLS
To bring the most value you will have experience in some or all of the following:
- designing products for consumers,
- working with food-safe materials,
- designing products that involve fitting multiple parts together,
- designing products that are watertight/leakproof,
- using a screw top or other method to closely fit parts together to form a seal,
- creating the 3D files ready for 3d printing and/or mass manufacture,
- rapid prototyping, and
- procuring parts made from plastic and silicone.
Initially, you will not be asked to necessarily produce any drawings or produce any designs. I merely want to learn from your expertise.
DURATION
I expect our initial consultation will take about an hour. However, I am open to hearing your views. You may suggest that the issues I wish to cover need 3 hours, or time for you to mock up a simple CAD drawing of the concept. I am open to changes in scope based on your experience.
DELIVERABLE
During our initial consultation, I will look to ask you about:
- the feasibility of the concept I am working on,
- the likely challenges in finalising the design,
- the best materials to use in making the product,
- the likely challenges in manufacturing the product, and
- the likely cost in manufacturing the product (ballpark).
OTHER INFORMATION
Based on previous experience I am likely to select two-three freelancers for this initial consultation. All will be paid based on their quoted rates.
FURTHER WORK
Depending on the feasibility of the concept and your skills there may be further work in developing the product, including the design work and assistance with prototyping and sourcing the manufacturing of the product. Depending on your skill sets I may list this as a separate job and ask you to submit an application or come back to you directly.
HOW DO I WIN THIS JOB?
1. Think about your experience and demonstrate that. For instance, designed a water bottle for someone? Tell me about it or send me a link (if you can). You are unlikely to win the job if you just give me a long list of skill sets. You're more likely to win the job if you can point to relevant experience.
2. Think about what you think I need. I have opened this up for an initial consultation of about an hour. If you really think I need two hours - tell me. If you really think I need two separate consultations, one with you (eg. a designer) and one with a freelancer whom you've worked with before (eg. a manufacturing specialist) - tell me. You don't need to go into too much detail, you just need to show me you understand the needs of someone early in the development cycle.
