We need to design a dry erase (or wet erase) pen, with lid and mounting clip, that does not exceed 5mm in thickness overall. This presents a problem current, since all pens are at least 8mm thick. We need to make the pen flat (like an extruded flat rectangle), with a lid that does not exceed the pen tube dimensions. The mounting clip should hold the pen securely, however should be easy for the user to remove the pen when needed. The clip would be mounted with VHB (double-sided tape) here at our factory, so it needs a flat back side to it.
The reason we need the pen to be flat is because here in the USA, there are restrictions to the thickness a package can be, if you are choosing to send it out in standard USPS mail, which we utilize for this product. The current pen and clip that we use is cylindrical, and much too thick (12-14mm overall thickness). I am attaching a photo of the existing pen/clip for your reference.
The pen, lid, and clip will ultimately be produced in China, and some mould tooling will be needed. For that reason, the applicant to this job should have working knowledge of mould manufacturing processes and guide us in the most cost effective direction available.
Please keep in mind that dry/wet erase pens have 'nibs' or wicks where the ink is drawn in from. These nibs are rated in mm, some are 1mm, 2mm, 3mm, and 5mm. I believe for this application a 2mm nib is best suited.
