Description
Experience Level: Expert
Summary
I have an issued/pending patent and an existing SolidWorks assembly of the device. The current design has functional flaws. I’m looking for an experienced mechanical designer to audit the model, correct the design, and deliver a fully 3D-printable, working prototype.
Scope / Responsibilities
Review my patent drawings/claims and the current SolidWorks parts/assembly.
Diagnose failure points (mechanism, tolerances/fit, strength, interference, motion/kinematics).
Propose and implement design changes with DfAM best practices (supports, overhangs, fillets, snap-fits/fasteners, inserts, clearances).
Run basic verification (tolerance stack-up, interference/motion check; light FEA preferred).
Recommend process & materials (FDM/SLA/SLS; e.g., PETG/ABS/PA12, tough/elastic resins) and any off-the-shelf hardware (e.g., heat-set inserts, screws, springs).
Provide at least one design iteration after feedback to reach a functional print.
Requirements
Expert in SolidWorks (Fusion 360 acceptable) and design for 3D printing (FDM, SLA, or SLS).
Proven track record turning patent concepts into functional printed prototypes.
Strong understanding of printed part tolerances, joints, and mechanisms.
Clear communication and regular progress updates.
Deliverables
Updated parametric CAD: .SLDPRT/.SLDASM + STEP.
Print-ready files: .STL/.3MF with recommended orientation, layer height, infill, supports (slicer notes).
Assembly package: drawings, exploded views, BOM, and critical tolerances.
Short design report: issues found, fixes made, and material/post-processing guidance (e.g., resin choice, heat-set inserts, surface finishing).
(Nice to have) Summary of motion/FEA checks.
What I’ll Provide
Patent document(s), the current SolidWorks model, and notes on the observed failures & target performance.
How to Apply
Please share:
A portfolio/link highlighting similar functional 3D-printed mechanisms.
Your approach, software version, and questions you’d ask up front.
A fixed-price or milestone quote with an estimated timeline.
NDA and IP assignment are required; all files and IP remain mine.
Looking forward to working together.
