Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Estimated project duration: 1 - 2 weeks
I have near complete 3d model in SktechUp, which I need help finishing off.
The design/idea background:
- this is a 2m high and 2m wide and 50cm deep disc media holder box which has the following characteristics:
- Allows filing of CD/DVD/Blue ray media discs placed into the hopper into internal shelves
- Retrieve media discs from internal shelves back into hopper
- the front side equipped with touch screen LCD to select functions, scanner to scan bar code of media disc and hopper to place discs in
- expected to hold 3300 discs when full sized
Typical process flow when using the box :
- have a typical batch of media discs of 10 in their cases with barcodes on the back
- user select function from the LCD touchscreen (file or retrieve)
- user separates discs and puts them into hopper in the front (when filing)
- once all placed in the hopper, mechanics should elevate each disc using suction cups to the level of gripper
- gripper grabs a disc, rotates 180 degrees to face shelves, flip to vertical position
- gripper is positioned at required point (x, y) and then and disc is pushed into shelve disc holder
- the processes above are reversed when retrieving discs with the help of actuator on the other side of shelves
- the actuator is positioned at required point (x, and y coordinates) and pushes out disc slightly in order for gripper be able to grab disc
- steps above reversed to place disc to hopper
What is required:
- prototype design which is 25% of the final design size
- completion of design, in particular how best to achieve pick up of discs from hopper in horizontal position, rotate 180 degrees, flip to have disc in vertical position and eventually filing into 4mm wide disc holder
- so precision of mechanics is the key in order to file discs into narrow disc holders
- no work is done on steps to push out discs from the back of shelves in order for gripper to be able to grab discs so this is required
- design/efficiency improvement in the mechanics in order to reduce seconds it takes to file away or retrieve discs
- your work should refer to online shops where parts can be bought readily rather than custom 3D printed
I expect custom 3D printing to be minimal and for any parts that can't be sourced from off the shelf parts in markets. In particular, shelve disc holders are going to be 3D printed, but others should be available on the markets.
electronics is going to be based on Arduino, and it is optional as I will program it myself
