Cut and Paste xls project

We have a spreadsheet with 8000 product descriptions in - like SKU, short description, size, colour price etc. We need to strip out some of this data for each and every entry into a new spread sheet and into new cells where a category will be allocated, a size and or colour added etc. All the products are marine related, so lifebouys, fenders, etc. There is no quick and easy way to do this - we have already explored macros etc in xls. So its a cut and paste project.
