Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Estimated project duration: 1 - 2 weeks
I am preparing to publish e-book and logs to help people learn to differentiate common illness from serious ones and so reduce wasted consultation. To educate patients, I used annotations or short stories.
I used to spend 10-15 expelling the difference but the patient would turn around and demand antibiotics after I educated them. The patients always said their doctor always said they had viral infection and prescribed antibiotics.
Here I am expalaining the difference between Virus & Bacteria and Antibiotics and Antiviral Drugs
"How can you kill an elephant? Using a double barrel gun or a match stick?
The patient would choose "double barrel gun".
Then I would say viruses are like an elephant and we do not have a double barrel gun (antiviral drug) but we have matchstick (antibiotics) that can kill an ant (bacteria), then I would turn around and ask the patient if they still want the antibiotics.
99% of patients thought for few seconds, and said "NO", and told me antibiotics is bad for them because they get thrush and they will become immune (though this was wrong, you don't become immune to antibiotics but bacteria will develop resistance).
Did you understand the difference?
I think this will help educate lay people and (also new doctors) reduce GPs giving wrong information that has undermined confidence of patients, increased demand and brought shame to my profession.
Can you help me?
