Description
Experience Level: Entry
Estimated project duration: Ongoing
Opportunity
We are currently looking for someone to help us produce the textile substrate for our wearable sensors. Leading up to the handing out of a new batch of prototypes to our customers, you would work with us on the refinement and production of the fabric components. Therefore, the role would be ideally suited to someone with rich textiles / tailoring experience, a good eye for detail, and creativity in problem solving and product refinement.
Working alongside our designer, you would be responsible for making our technology truly wearable and attractive. For each new prototype, this includes a period of refinement and iteration on the previous version, and the batch manufacturing of the refined design.
We like (and keep) our deadlines, but we offer work with a young, social and diverse group of people with jokes and the occasional game of table football (see below for more about the company).
Requirements
• Work/study experience in fashion, tailoring, textile design or a related field. Experience with sportswear or similar would be a big plus.
• Ability to produce textile prototypes to a high standard
• Reliability for on-time delivery and willingness to put in extra hours if necessary
• Ability and willingness to get involved creatively, providing input for design, problem solving and refinement
• Preferable (but not required) solid knowledge of fabrics and ability to advise on material selection / sourcing
• Demonstrates good judgement, impeccable character, takes pride in their work
Salary
10£/hour
At the stage of batch manufacturing payment per deliverable at comparable rate.
Hours and location
The development time and batch size of each production run varies. Currently, this amounts to roughly 40-50 hours within 10-14 days, every three weeks. We would need you to operate at our office during the design refinement stage (currently 3 days). Afterwards, you may continue working from home or your studio.
About the company
Marblar is a venture capital funded healthcare product development company based in Camden (London, UK). Working as a small, agile team with a diverse background, we're looking to use technology to tackle under-addressed healthcare challenges. What makes us different is the simultaneous deep focus on (a) understanding the medical conditions, patient needs, and market dynamics in question, (b) excellent engineering, and (c) intuitive, user-centric design.
We're a diverse group of people (hailing from the UK, Germany, Austria, the US, and India), who collectively have tried their hands at Life Sciences, Medicine, Product Design, Full-stack software development, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, and Materials Science, before finally finding our calling in empowering people to take charge of their own health. We all work really hard, but love working and spending time together. Each day we go out to lunch together (on the company dime) to one of the many restaurants in walking distance here in Camden. It’s often over these meals that some of our best ideas come out.
Submission
Interested candidates should send their brief cover letter, CV and samples of previous work to thomas@marblar.com with the subject: “Seamstress / Seamster: Your Surname”.
The work samples can be sent in free form which may be in the shape of a portfolio, but phone pictures of work with a few detail shots are also acceptable.
