Description
Experience Level: Entry
Hi,
My son attended an 'away tour' for the Colts (16-18 year old age group) with the local rugby club, which we paid for him to go on.
Despite the club being an affiliated RFU club, they failed to put Safeguarding measures in place, a group of 18 year olds got completely p****d, coaches also failed to stay sober (legal requirement under safeguarding legislation) and the end result was my sons room getting broken into by some of his p***ed team members. Things were broken, stolen and as a fairly innocent 17 year old the events shook him up a bit (to the extend he called me at 4.30am and asked me to pick him up from Torquay)......some of the other youngsters in the team also experiences similar.
The scheduled rugby game was cancelled (although my son and others has left sooner due to safety concerns) due to youger lads parents coming to pick them up.
The rugby club as refusing to provide refunds and compensate for stolen/damaged items ...this situation arose because the club had failed to put adequate safeguarding measure in place.
There has since been a large Police, RFU, Gloucestershire RFU and Social Services investigation (which is still ongoing), the club chairman and half of the safeguarding team have since left the club...and there is absolutely no doubt that the club are in the wrong.
I am wanting to pursue a claim for ticket price + cost of stolen/damaged goods for myself and probably 3-4-5 other parents...which probably amounts to a few thousand pounds.
These events effected some of the youger lads quite badly (they come from rural areas and some have led sheltered lives), they went a night without sleep due to hotel rooms being trashed and it took them a while to get over what happened.
Probably a small claims court issue [Money Claim Online], need help drafting a wording.
