Description
Experience Level: Entry
We are starting a small fund, which allows accredited investors to invest in digital assets via us.
Investors can both join and leave the fund at any point in time.
Investors send us $USD and we buy digital assets with it. We may not necessarily buy the assets straight away. We may hold some portion of the fund in cash (while waiting for a good entry price) and the other portion in digital assets, or we might trade from time to time. We also plan to dilute the fund by sending profits to investors (in $USD) which will obviously reduce holdings.
What we need is a spreadsheet where we can simply plug in the people in the fund, the amount they put in, the date they bought in to it, and the spreadsheet works out what percentage of the fund they own.
Obviously as we add new investors, it will dilute the percentage of the fund that the other investors own, but it will be a reduced percentage of a larger total amount (i.e. because of the new capital from the new investor).
The time that they join the fund obviously effects the percentage ownership because the value of the fund will change over time.
For example (my maths could be wrong here so please check):
If we have these fund participants:
John: £1000
Fred: £1000
Bob: £1000
If each joins at the same time, each has 33.33% of the fund.
If Harry wants to invest £1000 on day one with the others he would have a 25% share, and their shares would also go to 25% each.
But if Harry invests at a later date, and the value of the fund has, say, doubled (because of price appreciation of the digital assets it holds), Harry would only get:
Fund value: £6000
Fund value after Harry £1k investment: £7000
Harry percentage of the fund: 14.28%
So John, Fred and Bob would now have 85.72% between them = 28.57% each.
Conversely if the price of the digital assets has halved, the numbers would work in the opposite direction (in Harry's favour).
I need a spreadsheet that calculates who owns what percentage of the fund based on the funds' value when they join and the amount they invest. It needs to adjust every fund participants holdings accordingly.
Please use dummy fund members for the spreadsheet and we will populate with real data after it is working correctly.
I think it will need a field where we can manually enter the value of the fund (i.e. the cash plus the digital assets it holds) every time we have a new fund member join.
Hopefully this makes sense!
