Description
Experience Level: Expert
We are a California employment law firm seeking a senior HR consultant for ongoing fractional support. Our attorneys practice employment law — which means the person in this role must be credible, confident, and operationally rigorous. You will be advising and supporting managers who are themselves well-versed in employment law and will not hesitate to push back.
Scope of work:
Performance management support: coaching managers through the process, documentation, and PIPs
Goal-setting and benchmark development for staff
Employee complaint intake and investigation support
Policy maintenance and periodic updates (California compliance)
Ad hoc HR guidance as needed
Payroll is handled separately and is not part of this role.
What we're looking for:
5+ years of HR generalist or HR business partner experience
Deep familiarity with California employment law (FEHA, CFRA, meal/rest requirements, at-will nuances, etc.)
Experience operating in a professional services or legal environment strongly preferred
Comfortable advising managers who have substantive employment law knowledge
Strong written documentation skills
No hand-holding required
Engagement:
Approximately 10 hours per month on a regular basis, with periodic spikes for policy work or active employee relations matters. Open to hourly or monthly retainer arrangements — include your preferred structure and rate in your proposal.
