General information for the business: Need some urgent help querying a spreadsheet

Description of excel work: I need someone to urgent interrogate a spreadsheet for me. I have a list of full postcodes in column A and a number of households in column D, i.e. NG221AE there are 50 houses - I need to know how many households in each postcode 'sector', so how many in NG all together - so ask the spreadsheet to look at column A, only the rows with content starting NG - then give us the sum of all column D matching that criteria. Simples. There are around 100 postcode sectors to query.
