Description
Experience Level: Expert
Hi,
We have a business operating in the English Language Learner market (yes, I have just made that up). The current business operates as follows:
The Current Offering
-------------------------------
People who desire to improve their English, book a package through a provider (for example - https://www.ef.co.uk/). The provider generally agrees to provide them with daily classes, accommodation and some activities.
At present, our business is further downstream, as we host the English Language learner and we receive a fee for that service. Within the fee we are supposed to create an atmosphere of warmth, engagement and a venue for the student to develop their conversational skills in a non-class environment, at dinner and breakfast times. We also provide breakfast and dinner through the week and all three meals on a Saturday and Sunday.
New Business Model - The Opportunity
------------------------------------------------------------
I would like to develop this area of the business by constructing a package that does the following:
a) the learner pays our business directly - go to the student directly
b) We provide the learner with accommodation for the duration of their stay in England
c) we provide the learner with the opportunity to develop their English language skills via tasks, activities and independent learning
c) Activities such as - cooking, cleaning, playing games, days out
d) provide structured learning after the activity. For example, activity sheets, online learning etc. The aim is to have the learning reflect on the task and activity, so as to embed as much knowledge as possible
e) Somehow create a pathway to accreditation on departure from England, in line with current recognised English accreditations
The Task at Hand - Your Job
------------------------------------------
In order to take the next step, I've surmised I am in need of a program that an individual can subscribe to, wherein they engage in a number of activities that call for conversation and discussion, throughout each week of their stay. Activities such as washing up, doing the laundry, cooking breakfast, lunch or dinner.
We have two properties in whic we host students at present. Both properties have the scope to engage the English Language learner in the maintenance and upkeep of the building. In essence, the daily tasks that any house would need, would be undertaken by the English language learner.
It is within these tasks, we will build the activity.
The task, in practice, will not be formal and will have no aims other than the obvious stated aims. Doing dishes is doing dishes. The chance to improve the English formally will be in the programme of learning that sits behind the task, which we will call The Activity. To illustrate - the task is doing the dishes. The activity is the discussion that takes place in the kitchen while doing the dishes. Discussing various kitchen items introduces the English language learner to tangible examples.
The actual formal learning takes place independent from the task and activities and gives the learner a chance to consolidate the task and activity.
At some point on the same day, the learner will be given a chance for independent learning at which point they will reflect on the task and activity aided by worksheets, an online-based programme or some other tool that enables accreditation.
The Job
-------------
Develop a based program of tasks and activities (a 2-week programme)
Pose 3 x solutions that the learner can undertake to embed the day's learning
Develop an accreditation plan or pathway, based on the existing framework for this are of learning
I hope this makes sense. Please contact should you have any questions.

I would like to ask questions but whenever I talk about my skill levels the admin' says "NO" so all I can ask is "is this an ongoing or one off plan?
