Description
Experience Level: Entry
I have a sensitive situation with an employee who's been absent from work since April this year.
This employee has undergone chemotherapy treatment for cancer and her SSP will expire on 12/12/19.
It is unclear as to whether she will be able to return to work due to the effects that the treatment has had on her mind and body. Her role as a logistics controller requires high concentration and accurate typing.
She started her employment with us on 20/05/2013 and up until her absence, she has been extremely reliable. We are a small family run business with only one other full time member of staff. As such, her absence is having a detrimental effect on the business.
I have spoken to her and said that if she's unable to return to work by 12/12/19, we will reluctantly have to let her go under fair dismissal.
In the coming weeks, I want to make sure that I am doing everything above board and need support from a HR professional who can advise accordingly and draft letters where required.
I would prefer to have a chat about this over the telephone before proceeding further.
Thank you
Martin
