Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
I am seeking a suitably skilled and experienced person to help me on a part time basis developing a start up social enterprise project based in West Dorset.
The project is called Men Beyond 50 and its aim is respond to important unmet needs and aspirations of older men. We have a big vision:
- How can we help older men who are lost, vulnerable or voiceless find their way again in later life?
- How can older men best use their skills and experience to help mentor and guide younger people?
- How can the tribe of older people (men and women together) speak out most effectively on issues which really matter today?
Men Beyond 50 is currently a partnership between Alan Heeks and Max Mackay-James: because of the rapid growth of the project, we are now seeking 3 – 4 additional people to join our team part time. The key role for the Outreach and Research Helper is to provide a range of assistance to Alan Heeks for his roles in the project, which include media coverage, events and partner organisations. Your specific roles will depend on the priorities as they emerge, and on your skills and interests. Key areas are likely to include:
• Partner organisations: research to identify, screen and evaluate potential partners, making initial contact, and maintaining the relationship. This could include charities helping older men to mentor younger men, sustainability groups, etc.
• Media relations: helping the work which Alan and hopefully a PR specialist will be doing in this area, eg research to identify target publications, contacting men within the MB50 network to ask if they will be interviewed or provide a case study, research to provide material for media features, etc.
• Events: Liaison with individuals wanting to offer events for men beyond 50, producing information for use on the MB50 website and social networking, etc.
• Helping Alan with other research, eg for the book and blog.
The project is still in its early start up stages, and is not earning revenue yet. Hence we would welcome involvement from individuals willing to work on a voluntary basis initially, with an allocation of revenue when it arises. We are also willing to offer a paid position at a modest rate. You will be working mostly from home: living in Dorset/Devon or the south-east would be essential for occasional meetings (ie in London or West Dorset). Contract would be for an initial 3 to 6 month period.
Initially 8-12 hours per week, but potentially more as the project grows.
