Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
This job requires the researcher to provide an overview of the employment of non-UK immigrants by client-facing professional firms (defined below) within the UK business and financial services sector.
The findings should include:
1) A summary of:
a) The number of non-UK immigrants currently employed by client-facing professional firms in the UK business and financial services sector (including an indication of how this compares to the total number of employees within these types of firms), and
b) Comparator historical numbers over the last three years
Data on the number of non-UK immigrants should be split between the main countries of origin (i.e. separate figures for immigrants from India, Australia etc).
2) Separately for each of the main countries of origin (determined based on findings from 1) above), an overview of:
a) The stage at which the immigrants typically enter the UK business and financial services sector (e.g. immediately after higher-education in their domestic country; after X years of employment in their domestic country etc)
b) The routes typically taken to entering the UK business and financial services sector (e.g. direct application to UK vacancies on an individual basis; use of a UK employment agency; use of an employment agency in the immigrant's domestic country etc)
c) Any publications / websites / events often used by prospective or current non-UK immigrants to the UK business and financial services sector. This should include: name of publication / website / event; frequency of publication / occurrence; number of average monthly unique readers / viewers / attendees; an indication as to whether the publication / website / event currently accepts advertising by third parties
3) Recommendations by the researcher as to any other medium which could be used to effectively reach:
a) Prospective non-UK immigrants to the UK business and financial services sector, and
b) Non-UK immigrants who have entered the UK business and financial services sector within the last five years
For the purpose of this job, the term "client-facing professional firms" covers:
- Accounting consultancy firms
- Actuarial consultancy firms
- Legal consultancy firms
- Management consultancy firms
- Tax consultancy firms, and
- Any other type of consultancy firm which the researcher considers significant
The researcher should write up their findings in a short report. The length of the report will be discussed with the appointed researcher but we currently envisage it running to no more than 8-10 pages, of which a significant proportion will be in tabular / chart form rather than long passages of text.
Discretion rests with the researcher as to the format used for their report but the emphasis should be on the quality of the findings rather than the report's appearance.
During the course of the work the researcher may be provided with commercially sensitive information. Therefore the work will be awarded conditional upon the researcher signing a Non-Disclosure Agreement ahead of being formally appointed.
We would like bids to be submitted on a fixed price basis.
This piece of research is one in a series of three that will be posted in early October.
Please do let me know if you need any additional information.
