Description
Experience Level: Expert
We are looking for five short narratives about matters related to business. These narratives are for use in a test of logical reasoning in business contexts for non-native speakers of English. The questions, which we will write, will ask the test-takers to identify the arguments in the passage and assess their quality, and then construct simplified versions of the arguments in the narrative, or counter-arguments to it. The test-takers will be required to think about the narratives in detail, and we intend that to be an interesting and informative experience.
We would like each narrative to cover a different area of business. Possible areas would be manufacturing, retail, pharmaceuticals, leisure, finance, construction, online retailing, electronics, property, transport, and logistics.
Please bear the following requirements in mind.
• Each narrative should be about 250-300 words in length.
• Each narrative must have an argument, which may be either inductive (an argument from evidence to a general conclusion) or deductive (an argument from general principles to a specific case). It may have more than one.
• It should not rely on subtle differences in the meaning of words, and should avoid plays on words. However, it is not necessary, or desirable, to write in deliberately simplified English. Write naturally, without trying to be linguistically clever.
• It should be about an aspect of an area of business that is interesting to people working in any field. If it covers something that not everyone will know, so much the better.
• The facts must be accurate.
Do not worry about making the arguments perfect; as some of the questions will ask about flaws in the arguments, we will add errors if you do. In addition, some questions will address finding the steps of the arguments, so you need not make every step perfectly clear.
We would like interested parties to bid on a per narrative basis specifying the business areas to be covered. In order to avoid misunderstanding or disappointment, we will ask for narratives to be completed on a sequential basis. Please can you provide details of your experience and qualifications as well as a time frame. The guide price per narrative is £200 to £1,000.
