Description
Experience Level: Entry
The task is to find some data on the affiliate program of each company in the list.
‘Simply put, affiliate programs, also called associate programs, are arrangements in which an online merchant Web site pays affiliate Web sites a commission to send them traffic. These affiliate Web sites post links to the merchant site and are paid according to a particular agreement.’
Source: https://money.howstuffworks.com/affiliate-program1.htm
For each company name find the following information. Use the company’s website, Ts and Cs, and Google to find the information. If it doesn't appear anywhere on a website sometimes you can try talking to the company’s support chat.
The main url of their affiliate program. Usually this the first result if you Google ‘COMPANY_NAME affiliate program’. Ensure it’s the global / US version of the site not another country.
The minimum amount paid in commission per sale in $
The maximum amount paid in commission per sale in $. Note that the minimum and maximum amounts are sometimes the same.
When a user clicks on an affiliate link, a tracking cookie is placed in their browser. These usually last a number of days. Find out the duration / length of this tracking cookie.
Find the payment period for the affiliate program, i.e. how long does it take to get paid as an affiliate. Sometimes a range is indicated. In this case use the maximum.
Find the minimum payout in $, i.e. how much do you have to earn as an affiliate before you get paid? Sometimes it will be $0.
For data points 2 - 6 also provide the URL to where the information can be found and a quote of the exact text that specifies it.
Example. For the company called ‘Hostgator’:
https://www.hostgator.com/affiliates
$50
https://www.hostgator.com/affiliates
$50 /signup
$125
https://www.hostgator.com/affiliates
$125 / signup
60 days
https://support.hostgator.com/articles/affiliates/cookie-tracking-information
The tracking cookie is valid for 60 days
2 months + 15 days
https://www.hostgator.com/tos/affiliate-tos
Commission Fees will be processed two months plus ten days (2 months + 10 days) to two months plus fifteen days (2 months +15 days)
$100
https://www.hostgator.com/tos/affiliate-tos
reach the Commission Threshold of $100.00
Please complete the data in the attached excel spreadsheet. The Hostgator data is in there as an example.
