Description
Experience Level: Expert
Two of us inherited my late mother's house, our childhood home. I moved out long ago. My brother continues to live there. I've been urging a sale or part rental to get some income. My brother is enjoying effectively free accommodation while I gain no advantage from the place.
We now need to sell – he favours selling to the freeholder at reduced price; I want to sell for market price plus marriage value or uplift clause (our flat is the first and second floors of a detached house; the freeholder owns the ground floor). I am happy to sell to a third party at market value or the freeholders at market plus marriage value or uplift clause. The site has been earmarked as a prime development site.
We cannot agree a way forward. I'd like someone smart and creative to advise me.
I have months' of going-round-in-circles correspondence with my brother's lawyers, who seem incompetent. But now I'd like some help. Initially back-channel but with a letterhead when appropriate.
Oh. I have to enter a budget. OK. I'll make something up. Ignore it and tell me what you reckon; we can always renegotiate.
Thanks.
